Groundhog Day Comics - Win a Doll [Winners Posted] Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

Winner!

This weekend I watched Groundhog Day (the movie) after spending time freezing outside. I made a snowman, had some hot cocoa, and even scraped ice off a car. I'm ready for spring! Since it's clear I can't have that, I've decided that it's time we need some comics to cheer me up!

How to enter:

  • Create a comic strip using a Puzzle Pirates and Groundhog Day theme.
  • Host this comic strip somewhere (imageshack, photobucket, etc.).
  • Post a link to your creation in the ENTRY THREAD before midnight on February 9th. If the comic is less than 700 pixels wide, feel free to post it directly into the entry thread .
  • Please include your pirate name and ocean in your entry post.

Rules/Details:

  • The most important aspect of the comic is humor.
  • Is it formatted like a typical comic strip strip? Single-panel comics like "Far Side" are fine. However please keep it below 8 panels since we're not looking for a graphic novel. You can use any medium you wish provided the final product is comic-like. Could it be placed in the comic section of the Sunday paper?
  • Deadline: Midnight on February 9th.
  • The comic needs to be both YPP and Groundhog Day related. It's up to you on how you want to do this. Be creative and have fun with it. This means doing a comic of in-game stuff is just as valid as a comic about you sitting in front of your computer playing the game.
  • Standard YPP rules regardling language and content apply. If you say something in your comic that you cannot say in game, your entry will be disqualified.

Prizes:

Prizes will depend on participation and effort. Prizes will likely include a doll, eggs, various bits of furniture, etc.

So here's how it went:
  • Deadline passes.
  • I check out the entries and snicker several times. No favorites yet.
  • Casa de Cronus gets busy and I get forgetful.
  • I come back and check out the entries once more. I'm completely unable to determine my favorite.
  • Show them to other OMs and they too giggle and refuse to pick a winner for me. Jerks.
  • Entries are narrowed down to 3 possible winners.
  • Favorites are placed up on my dartboard and I proceed to miss it several times scaring the dog. No winners yet.
  • Apollo pokes me with large pointy stick.
  • I spin in my office chair with my eyes closed ready to point to one of my 3 favorites.
  • I fall out of office chair.
  • I convince myself that I really must choose my favorite. I vow to not leave my computer until this is done.
  • Someone sends me this link: Shiny!.
  • I get distracted and kill the invading zombie horde.
  • I remember what I was originally doing and go over my preliminary rankings. Unfortunately this is around the time someone sends me this link: More Shiny!
  • More monster hordes are crushed into oblivion.
  • I Devise an exceptionally complicated scoring system that requires a chart and a number 2 pencil.
  • Mathematicians across Olympus work to decipher my scoring system to determine a winner.
  • Apollo pokes me with large flaming stick.
  • I sit down with some ice cream and read them all over again.
  • I finally determined the winner!

Our winner: Faeree of Sage

Congratulations Faeree! Thank you guys for participating in the fun! I have a soft spot for comics and really enjoyed this contest. I'm sorry for the delay in judging, but it's been a bit busy around these parts. You all did a fantastic job here.

Prizes: Everyone (other than the winner) will receive one shiny Cronus egg to make into a large OMelet. The winner will receive a tiny stuffed Cronus. I'll post here when I'm done delivering the goodies, but it'll probably take me a day or so to finish.

Yay! Thanks and I have to say, I think the judging process is by far one of the most awesome ways to do it (especially the chair spinning). Gratz to Faeree ^^

Oops, missed the boat.

Ah well, thanks! I have a feeling Atropos doesn't feel so intimidated next to the Apollo twins anymore. :)
