Non-Blockadeable Islands Reply to this Post
Reply with Quote

For my own convenience, I went through a list of all islands, striking out the ones opened for blockades. I'm personally using this as a countdown to... well, something, but I'm not sure what.

Diamond: Alpha, Papaya
Emerald: Epsilon
Ruby: Midsummer, Olivia, Lynx
Jet: Eclipse, Dugong, Lagniappe, Rhinoceros Ridge, Namath
Pearl: Frond, Nuptial, Tadpole, O'Reilly, Cleopatra's Pearls (until Oct 15)
Opal: Norse, Waterberry, Boyle, Oseberg, Flow
Coral: Delta, Meke, Macaw, Turongo, Durian, Monsoon, Angelfish (until Oct 15)
Sapphire: The Horseshoe Crabs, Verdant Atoll, Iris, Uxmal, Vernal Equinox

Total: 33 out of 59 islands unblockadeable (56% remaining)

or, conversely, 26 out of 59 islands blockadeable (44% complete).

Hm, I've always been under the impression that Alpha and Epsilon were available, but no one had the guts to try and take them. What's the official word on why they're off limits?

I think they're only for for special events, such as the epsilon fun blockade that happened a couple of months back.

Aye, it would be a shame if someone ever plopped a fort on its beauty, not that the ocean would let them of course...

Last I heard, even if Papaya did open, it'd just be an Outpost.

If you really need to move your ship, either sail it rumless the three leagues to Turtle or sail in another ship and transfer the rum.

Hmmm, if it does open and is an outpost, will the owners still get to build that one shop, you know, since there's a market there already, and the standard for outposts is a fort and shop.

Ironically, the fight for Papaya was far less intense than the fights for Luthien, Cranberry, or Beta. (Or Remora, come to think of it.) There was just more tarting about it. I think that Papaya did a lot to promote the more good-natured contested blockades we have now. (Because they're far better than the alternative.)

Tadpole, Verdant, and Nuptial don't really spawn anything important, but as one of Jet's two hemp sources, Rhinoceros Ridge is an important island to open to market bidding.

Oh dear. There goes my plan for a skyscraper casino on Nuptial. Sail-through weddings, distilleries... a true pirate's paradise. All gone.

More seriously, I don't see Rhino in the same category as necessary to preserve as the other three, and I don't remember it being as small/impossible to build on, although I haven't been there in a while.

It's very very small, but could support a fort. It's mostly the hemp that would require it to open.

Will Vernal Equinox be outpost or full?

(It looks like it could support all the non-shoppes and 3 or 4 shoppes atleast)

i think that the OM"s want to keep a certain level of control in the ocean: I.E. keeping one island from the main 2 archs.

I understand Nuptial (weddings), tadpole (smallest island?).

What's Verdant's claim to fame?

Forget I said anything. I confused Vernal Equinox with Uxmal. My intuition says Equinox will be an outpost, since the archepelagos with lots of rare commodities tend to have exactly two colonies, and those will be Beta and Uxmal. Besides, there isn't anywhere near enough wood in Sapphire to support three colonies.

Does that mean that Papaya is opening in the near future? It's not on the anti-open list.

Why seriously even considering opening small islands on the edges of arches or the ocean? I mean, is it even viable to have a fort/shoppe on the edge of nowhere? Who will shop up there unless to simply bid.

Islands shuch as cleo, frond, nup have no business to be opened to colonization (I took pearl examples...). If people are crying and begging for more (boring) markets, so just place a market there, who needs a fort? Eta and Nu have been marketed for ages without been colonized.
