If the old Control-Alt-+ hotkeys work for switching your resolution, this little java app might help yah simulate fullscreen in linux. Of course, you'll still have virtual desktop space off-screen.... but the app should center things properly for you, and handle the resolution switches. I've gotten quite used to it, and like it better. Free download, no warraties explicit or implied.... yadda yadda. Just read the instructions. Message Lotek in-game if you have problems with it. Oh, if it works for you and you like it... gimme a war brig. :) http://noquarter.warchildsystems.net Click "Linux Launcher" at the top. *UPDATE* - There was a problem with the background image. It should be fixed now. Download the new package. Also, I wrote a little program to change the window size at bit ago to compete with the windows peoples wonderful icon thingy. It's just source code for now (instructions to compile it are near the top of the file). I'll maybe do something more with it if there's enough interest. forceresize -h gives you the usage help ---------------------------------------- Weaver - First Mate of Orange Revolution, Prince of Crimson Tide Sword Patterns |

I didn't modify Weaver's source, it's still available from the link above. Incidentally, I am running Debian Sid, so the binary I provided may not necessarily run on your version of XFree/X.org and glibc. |

You still have to say where to get the source from, or provide it yourself when you distribute binaries. But I was just joking around anyway. Edit: na, it's using standard X11R6 calls, and standard libc calls, so it should work on any x86 machine just fine. (to clarify, here's the requirements as compiled (objdump -p forceresize) : NEEDED libX11.so.6 NEEDED libXmu.so.6 NEEDED libc.so.6 Version References: required from libc.so.6: 0x0d696910 0x00 02 GLIBC_2.0 So as long as you're using GLIBC 2.0 or higher, and have X11 installed, you should be good to go!) But tested and confirmed working on Fedora Core 3. ---------------------------------------- Hack - I don't even play poker now... It's ok, because Weaver's original post fails to properly include the license anyway. :P ----------------------------------------

I'd rather just offer the straight binary, but if you'd prefer for me to tarball it with the LICENSE and COPYING and source files, that's fine too. |

I really don't care one way or the other, I was just joking around. Weaver is the only one that can tell you to do anything regarding his code. ---------------------------------------- Hack - I don't even play poker now... Bootseg.com |

It's not ok. Without an explicit license, under copyright law noone has any right to copy or distribute my code by default. (So many people assume that because something doesn't say, that they can do anything they want). However in this case, the license is in the code. It's GPL. The GPL roughly boils down to. 1/ There is no warrenty (if it breaks, or breaks your machine you get to keep both parts) 2/ You may copy/modify the program as you want, so long as you 3/ Provide a mechanisim for people to get your modified source, or just a pointer back to my code if its unmodified. ---------------------------------------- Weaver - First Mate of Orange Revolution, Prince of Crimson Tide Sword Patterns |

Yes, of course - I'm well aware of the GPL and copylefting (and copyright and blah blah). I just meant that she'd only have to deal with you, not the FSF or some GPL watchdog group. I mostly found it interesting that your code says it's licensed under GPL, but never actually includes the GPL or a link to it - only an address that it says should be contacted if the license wasn't included. No FS/OSS expert, obviously, I briefly wondered if any license were actually applied. I imagine the answer is a de facto yes, for various reasons, but I wasn't trying to make a serious statement. I'll have to remember to add copyright to my no-jokes list after politics and religion. ----------------------------------------

In the case of no license being applied, then it reverts to "All Rights Reserved" and no one can copy it at all. Also the FSF won't get involved with any GPL disputes unless they are the copyright holders, mainly since they have no legal standing to bring a court case without owning the copyright in question. If you want the FSF to enforce the GPL on your work, you need to assign them the copyright to the code. I'd imagine it would be. I can't see any lawyer finding a loophole around hidden licensing terms when it is a widely published document (first hit on Google if you type GPL). Especially given that you don't even get to see licenses from companies such as Miscrosoft until you're 1/2 through installing their software. and, actually the proper download is here: http://weaver.merold.net/pirates/forceresize-1.0.0.src.tar.bz2 I had just unpacked it in that directory, so the license file is here: http://weaver.merold.net/pirates/COPYING.GPL along with the code: http://weaver.merold.net/pirates/forceresize.c
Yeah, I know (I've seen stuff you posted that was GPL'd), I was just making it clear for those who might be wondering. Not that in the end I really care (in this case)... it's only 1/2 dozen xlib calls =) ---------------------------------------- Weaver - First Mate of Orange Revolution, Prince of Crimson Tide Sword Patterns |

Alright, 4 years later now, can someone help me with Weaver's solution. I'm still learning linux and I'm not sure what to do to make it work. Where it says "compile with: gcc -g -Wall -o forceresize forceresize.c -L/usr/X11R6/lib/ -lX11 -lXmu", I used the "gcc -g -Wall -o forceresize forceresize.c -L/usr/X11R6/lib/ -lX11 -lXmu" part and ran it through the terminal but got "gcc -g -Wall -o forceresize forceresize.c -L/usr/X11R6/lib/ -lX11 -lXmu", so I don't know if that's what I was supposed to do or not. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 by the way, any help would be great, thanks! ---------------------------------------- Caribou Captain, East Emerald Trading Co. Emerald Ocean |

That command, if it gave no errors, should have created a program called "forceresize" in your current directory. Run it by typing: ./forceresize Seems to work for me. Although I'm not sure why you can't use the Ye->Options to change your screen resolution. I imagine they added the options after this program came out. That is the acceptable way to change screen resolution. ---------------------------------------- Retired as of August 2015. 2 Timothy 4:7 ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by LJAmethyst at Jun 24, 2009 8:08:44 PM] |

http://toomuchwin.com/Support/YPP/fullscreenfix.zip Extract the .reg file to somewhere like your desktop, double click it, and accept the warning that appears. This will change the registry settings for Puzzle Pirates to turn fullscreen mode off and reset the size of the window to the default of 800x600. ---------------------------------------- Cerulean & Meridian - Icemeister Emerald & Obsidian - incognito! #TeamPurple |
