Animation Avatars - Win a Bia Doll!
As much as I like my current avatar, I believe it is time for a change. As such, here is an event for you to create my new avatar. However, I do not want just any avatar. After consideration, I felt that something that reflects my own interests would be best.

I love animation. I have followed the medium for a number of years, sometimes voraciously, sometimes merely as a strong counterpoint to other entertainment interests. At times, in previous jobs, I have spent a not-insignificant part of my income acquiring new titles to view, sometimes sight unseen.

Your task is to create me a new avatar that is in the style of some piece of animation. It could be any style, so long as it can be recognized. You may include a picture of the inspiration source, which could be helpful if it rather unknown.

Note that while I like animation, I do not need an animated avatar. A single-frame avatar that reflects the style is fine. A well-done animated avatar in an animation style is fine as well.

Post entries to this thread. You may post questions, as well.

There is no limit on the number of entries per person.

Include your pirate, ocean, and the inspiration for the style with your entry.

Entries must be original. This is not an image manipulation contest.

The contest will close April 11 at 11:59pm.

Prizes will include at least one Bia doll and perhaps other prizes that reflect me in some fashion.

So, by animation you mean 'cartoons'? (Am I going to get into trouble for calling it that?) Could you divulge your preferred cartoon or style, so we might have an idea of your particular taste?

Great event, looking forward to entering. :D

Yes, that is what I mean.

My tastes are varied. I enjoy classic Warner Bros., Disney features, anime, and more recent prime-time series.

Particular recent favourites include Lilo & Stitch, Kim Possible, The Venture Bros., Frisky Dingo, Spirited Away, Azumanga Daioh, and Detective Conan, but that is by no means exclusive.

While I have not yet had a chance to see it, I am somewhat excited to see Persepolis.

There is no limit on the number of entries you may make. However, quality is much more important than quantity.

Oh - so is it an animated avatar or just a single frame avatar that reflects your different animation tastes etc...?

A particularly well-known image came immediately to mind ~ now to see if I can recreate the style...

Either is fine, but it must reflect the style of another piece of animation.

Ooh, this sounds mighty neat. I suppose I'll do a Kim Possible-oriented thing, since that's the only thing I know I might score with.
Fiddler should hop around and do a Frisky Dingo-type avvie. It seems like Fid's thing. :)

So as far as what's in the avatar itself, do we limit it to just a theme of your love of animation, or want to include anything else you enjoy in reality? If we just create a pretty avatar, will you judge it by how much we incorporate a certain style or theme?

Well let's get started, shall we?

I think the pencil sketch is more fun, but it's too messy for an avatar.

Should be more on the way.

EDIT: oh yeah. "Inspiration" Is a little tough to pin down, but suffice to say it's on the same shelf as Looney Tunes.

(PS Thanks for posting this event on my day off)

Sadly I am not much of an artist but I went back in Time for my inspiration to one of my favourite animated films of my life.

Inspiration: The 80s classic The Flight of Dragons

EDIT: I couldn't do a picture based on this without Gorbash. I know he's not piratey but he is so awesome!

Re: Animation Avatars - Win a Bia Doll!
My inspiration is a recent cartoon I suspect very few people here watched. It's Nickelodeon's Catscratch. Bia apparently moonlights as an older and considerably tanner version of the Human Kimberly, complete with missing teeth. Poor Trebuchet has been replaced by Gordon, Waffle and Mr. Blik. He/she will get over it eventually.

Edit: Pirate name and ocean would be useful. Heh, oops. This entry was brought to you by Sancha of Midnight.

You should just use my jam avatar. Animated anime for the win.

Old fashioned cartoon Bia.

As this is not an image manipulation contest, the avatar should be your own work.

I suppose Kingpriam could use it, as he did the original piece.

Well - that was my first thought when I first read about this contest (I did mention a famous scene...) ah well - I don't think I could do it justice anyway.

Oh, just out of curiousity - do claymation (ie: Gumby) and computer animation (Pixar movies) fall under this category or are ye looking more towards hand-drawn?

/e is an animation nut... having earned his BFA in animation... and this is harder than I thought to narrow down what I want to do (and have time for)...

Kudos for the contest idea, Bia! I may have to do more than one entry... and then there's all that other art I'm doing... ah...

Re: Animation Avatars - Win a Bia Doll!
Just a clarification, but do you want us to make you look more like the character or to make the character look more like you. Such as if you were to do bugs bunny, give you bunny ears tail the funny bunny whiskers ad a little fur or turn bugs bunny into a brown bunny with your stylish gold/black/blue clothes.

Also hope you don't mind if I change your hair and clothes a bit.

I thought you were supposed to draw it, not alter an image. Bad boy! =/
Edit:Rofl, thanks for removing the image. Plaigarism(sp) always annoys me. I mean the fact that he said it wasn't his drawing....

Re: Animation Avatars - Win a Bia Doll!
I have 2 more questions that I don't think were answered:

1) Are we allowed to dress you in other thn your typical clothing?
2) Is there specific size requirement (both dimensions and size) to how big and how high-quality you want your avatars to be?

Forum avatars must be less or equal to 150 pixels square, and no greater than 60kb in size. They must be in PNG, JPG (JPEG) or GIF format.

The avatar must meet three conditions:

1. It must be original work.
2. It must be in the style of a piece of animation.
3. It must be of me.

How you meet those conditions is largely up to you.
