Faction backstories and Obsidian narratives
Grey Havens, or some well-off player, should sponsor a contest whereby the denizens of Mariner's Muse are induced to produce colorful prose describing the stories behind how Obsidian came to be. What motivates each faction? What caused this mysterious darkening of the seas in the first place? Was it the perpetual rivalry between Shadow Fleet and Defiant Armada? What do Brigand Kings have to do with all of this?

I think across all oceans that large flags should appoint historians, who document (hopefully on YPPedia) the real-pirate stories behind the alliances, wars, blockades, and other contests among flags on oceans past and present. Some of that history is preserved in factual format on the YPPedia, and some in epistolary format on the forums, but as Old Salts retire, we lose a significant oral history potential which will document our travails and victories, educate and entertain the greenies, and cement our legacy in the sands of time.
Retired as of August 2015.

Re: Faction backstories and Obsidian narratives
This sounds fun. Would be glad to help out such an effort.
